In their version of Roe v. Wade, the Mexican Supreme Court decriminalized abortion across the nation, allowing patients seeking abortions in states like Texas, Alabama and Mississippi to get safe, legal medical care across the border, the Associated Press reports.
Various Mexican states had legalized abortions in some manner–in the same patchwork policy Republicans believe works on a national level in the US–but in an opinion issued Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered the procedure decriminalized nationwide. With Mexico’s federally-funded health system, the order also requires all hospitals to provide abortion on-demand to patients to seek one at a government-run facility.
