Lawyers for President Trump filed a brief with a federal appeals court Thursday saying Trump deserved a “fair chance” to show that the subpoena for his tax returns was overbroad and too general, Reuters reports.
Trump’s attorneys have filed repeated motions to keep his accounting firm, Mazars, from turning over eight years of tax returns and other financial records to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, who has empaneled a grand jury to investigate Trump malfeasance.
Trump has taken the case to the Supreme Court, claiming that as President, he had “absolute immunity” to ignore the subpoena. That rationale was roundly rejected by the Justices.
The court will hear oral arguments in the case Friday, in what is generally considered a final gasp before Trump’s team is forced to abandon the case.
