A new Gallup poll shows that 61% of Americans would support a Constitutional amendment eliminating the Electoral College and electing the President of the United States by a pure national popular vote.
The figure is in line with historical support for such an amendment, with the only variation being pre-election 2016, when 47% supported keeping the Electoral College.
As The Atlantic reported, President Trump’s campaign is allegedly working on ways to subvert the vote to get republican state legislatures to appoint electors who are loyal to Trump and would ignore the will of their states’ voters.
