The number of daily fatalities approached 1,000 for the second day, as well, with the 7-day running average for new reported cases increasing for the 30th consecutive day.
Texas topped 11,000 new cases, with Florida (8,935) and California (7,248) the only states with more than 5,000 new cases. Arizona recorded more than 4,000 daily cases for just the third time.
