The World Health Organization estimates that around 10% of the world’s population, or about three-quarters of a billion people, have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic began, according to a new report it issued, as reported by NBC News.
“Our current best estimates tell us that about 10 percent of the global population may have been infected by this virus,” Dr. Michael Ryan, the WHO head of emergency response, said at a meeting of the WHO executive board.
The WHO figure is far greater than estimates from sources like Johns Hopkins, and it shows that a new wave of the pandemic could have even greater impact on people around the world.
Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for testified before Congress last month that 90% of the American public was still vulnerable to the virus. President Trump’s coronavirus advisor, Dr. Scott Atlas–who is a neuroradiologist with no experience in public health or virology–stated that Redfield was mistaken, without giving any data about why Redfield was wrong.
