A massive police presence has grown outside the campus of Columbia University, with police special tactics teams entering the building where demonstrators are holed up in protest of Israeli military attacks in Gaza. It’s unclear how many, if any, of the sixty people believed to be inside the building are affiliated with the University.
The students have taken over Hamilton Hall, blocking entrances, but New York Police officers are using a vehicle with a ramp on the roof to approach a window at the corner of 116th Street and Amsterdam. Demonstrators appear to want to have impact similar to the 1968 takeover of the building, except now, just sixty people are believed to be inside.
