What’s stupid about this bill is that, at least as far as we can tell from the summary text, is that it “prohibits states from accepting and processing an application to register to vote in a federal election unless the applicant presents documentary proof of US citizenship,” meaning that it only worked for new applications going forward, not for existing registered voters. For that, the bill mandated “A State shall remove an individual who is not a citizen of the United States from the official list of eligible voters for elections for Federal office held in the State at any time upon receipt of documentation or verified information that a registrant is not a United States citizen,” in terribly non-specific language probably meant to facilitate mass purges – but how the fuck was that ever supposed to work in the swing states mostly currently controlled by Dem Secretaries of State?
