In an effort to help unemployed Americans to find work, Google has announced that it will fund 100,000 online certifications scholarships and $10 million in other job training funding through other organizations, CNET reports.
The online certification programs will be provided by needs-based scholarships through the Google Career Certificates program, which provides training in fields like data analysis and project management.
Google considers these certificates, which take six months to obtain, the equivalent of a four-year college degree when making its hiring decisions.
Google will provide $10 million in job training assistance from the Google.org grant program to YWCA, NPower and JFF to help nonprofits improve their job training programs and increase services to women, veterans, and underserved Americans.
“College degrees are out of reach for many Americans, and you shouldn’t need a college diploma to have economic security,” Google Senior VP of Global Affairs Kent Walker said in a statement. “We need new, accessible job-training solutions—from enhanced vocational programs to online education—to help America recover and rebuild.”
