When questioned by Rachel Maddow about accounts given in her book that the Trump family used obscene and denigrating language to describe minorities and Jews, Dr. Mary Trump described President Donald Trump, her uncle, as a “[virulent] racist today.”
Pressed by Maddow if “her uncle, the President was an exception” to Dr. Trump’s description of her family’s routine use of bigoted slurs or, as Maddow asked, “if you ever heard him express or either use anti-semitic slurs or the n-word or racist slurs or other sentiments like that,” Dr. Trump responded matter-of-factly, “Oh, yeah, yeah. Of course I did.”
“I don’t think that should surprise anybody given how virulently racist he is today.”
Asked directly, “Have you heard the president use the n-word?” Dr. Trump replied immediately, “Yeah.”
“And anti-semitic slurs specifically?” Maddow followed up.
“Yes,” Dr. Trump said.
Explaining that she had a different upbringing than most of the Trump clan, having going to schools in racially and religiously integrated parts of New York, Dr. Trump said, “I didn’t share their views regarding race or Judaism at all.”
