Editor’s note: I really didn’t want to do a story about this, not because Tucker Carlson isn’t a homophobe, but because we already know how morally reprehensible Carlson is, and a couple lines in a 30-year-old college yearbook doesn’t do more to prove his bigotry than his words on every night of his television program. It’s like running a story about Trump defrauding a contractor while building a casino. But the story is getting legs, so have at it, Zeroes. [Video and yearbook photo appear after the fold].
Fox News host (and man who perpetually looks like he’s seeing his reflection in a mirror for the first time) Tucker Carlson boasted that he belonged to two college organizations honoring notoriously homophobic and racist people, images of his yearbook entry show.
Carlson, a 1991 graduate of Trinity College, a prissy “sub-Ivy” liberal arts college in Connecticut where he studied history after attending two boarding schools, wrote in his senior year yearbook profile that he was a member of the “Dan White Society” and the “Jesse Helms Foundation” on campus.
In 1978, former police officer Dan White assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Mascone and Harvey Milk, the first openly-gay elected official in California history. White said that ingesting the sugar from Twinkies made his crazy although he admittedly was angered at being turned down for a city supervisor job at the urging of Milk and others. He convicted of manslaughter and served just five years in prison. He committed suicide two years after his release. LGBTQ activists believe White acted out of homophobia in targeting Milk.
A conservative Senator from North Carolina who died in 2008, Jesse Helms was also a homophobe, as well as being a racist and misogynist.
Neither organization appears to have been legitimately organized at Trinity College. As of yet, no other members of the school have been found to have listed membership in the organization in their yearbook biographies, and it appears that Carlson included the references to memorialize his hatred and bigotry.
Carlson is facing a barrage of calls to cancel his program given his recent promotion of the racist “replacement” theory which says immigrants will eventually replace white people in jobs and white culture in society in general. Carlson apparently attempted to get ahead of the yearbook controversy Tuesday night through an ambiguous statement insulting the person who uncovered Carlson’s yearbook entry.
