In a move that can only be seen as a way to help the Trump campaign, Senate republicans removed a provision in a pending Intel Community funding bill that would require presidential campaigns to report offers of foreign help, according to CNN.
The Senate Intelligence Committee approved the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act earlier this month, with GOP Senator Susan Collins of Maine voting with Democrats to include the provision.
Recently, however, republicans refused to move the bill forward without removal of the provision, holding it up in committee. Florida Senator Marco Rubio, the chair of the committee, said the bill would only get a floor vote if the provision was removed.
In the republican-controlled Senate, the reporting requirement would likely not reach the floor for a vote on its own, which is why it was included in the larger NDA Act.
