Today’s the day to celebrate all things Star Wars, if you’re into that kinda thing, from A New Hope to The Rise of Skywalker. And marketers are taking full advantage of it to the fullest extent.
Yes, a television network is showing the Star Wars triple trilogy. And yes, Jar Jar Binks is still a better Senator than Ted Cruz could ever be. But if May the Fourth doesn’t sate your Star Wars desires, here are some things that can you can get to show your love of the franchise throughout the year.
- Williams Sonoma has a line of pressure cookers–which some have renamed InstaPots–that include an R2-D2 version and a Darth Vader version. And you can get a set of bamboo kitchen utensils bedecked in Star Wars images to stir your creation.
- You can choose an Amazon Echo Dot with remote in the Yoda shade of green, so you can always be sure the Force is listening.
- What household wouldn’t be complete without light saber chopsticks in a multitude of colors? (No, they do not cut your food for you.)
- But the best gift for that Star Wars fan is obviously a Lego creation: from a Stormtrooper’s helmet to Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian to mega-expensive Millenium Falcon (complete with your own Wookie), Lego designers haven’t missed out on a Star Wars-inspired set of blocks.
- And finally, there’s a Star Wars inspired Polaroid camera which, for $85, brings 1970s technology to your door. And you can even buy film to “shoot” your own Star Wars scenes that appear on the photo.
Star Wars was the first film to go all-in on cross marketing of a variety of products–more than the traditional lunch boxes and “action figure”–a business decision that may have gone overboard nowadays, but it set up George Lucas to create one of the best CGI shops ever.
So May the 4th be with you… ’cause it’s never going away.
