The SpaceX Dragon capsule slashed down safely in the waters off Florida’s Gulf Coast Sunday at 2:49 p.m., safely delivering astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley back to Earth after a two month mission to the International Space Station.
The drogue chutes deployed as planned, leading to the release of the four main parachutes, which lowered the speed of the capsule to just over 100 miles per hour.
The capsule landed just miles away from the recovery boats, which will do preliminary safety checks as the astronauts communicated with mission control. The goal is for the astronauts to disembark and for the capsule to be secured by the recovery ship within an hour of splashdown.
