Officials have confirmed 169 Afghans and 13 US troops were killed in the blast Thursday at the Kabul airport, saying that there was only one suicide bomber involved in yesterday’s attack, not two as initially reported, according to NPR News.
Two military transports have landed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany carrying American civilians and military injured in the blast at the airport. Officials clarified that there was no attack at the nearby Baron Hotel in Kabul.
In the previous 24 hours ending at 3 a.m. ET Friday, more than 12,500 people were evacuated from Kabul, despite the chaos caused by the attack. Since large-scale evacuations began in early August, more than 111,000 people, including 5,100 Americans, have been airlifted out of the country.
