Talking points distributed by the GOP, conservative organizations and anti-gun control groups told their members to essentially avoid talking about guns or how they were used to murder 21 people in an Uvalde, Texas elementary school and deflect to virtually anything else, reports Rolling Stone.
One Republican Senate candidate was advised, “Ignore guns, talk inflation” because of the overwhelming public support for efforts to keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill people as well as to strengthen gun control measures. The RNC circulated a talking point memo advising people to “thank…the members of law enforcement who responded to the scene and killed the shooter” even though local law enforcement waited more than 80 minutes to storm the classroom, allowing the shooter to kill more victims and students called 9-1-1 for help.
The weekly roundup of GOP talking points for the weekend, known as “Pundit Prep” for people making television appearances, completely avoided discussing Uvalde and gun control, advising readers to talk about literally anything than gun control or the mass murder.
