Two brothers from Florida, ages 11 and 14, broke into a Florida gun store and stole 22 weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition overnight, obviously able to defeat the security system the gun seller would likely have in place to prevent guns from falling into the hands of criminals and children, NBC News reports.
The names of the boys were withheld by police because they are juveniles. They face 22 counts of grand theft of a firearm, one count of armed burglary, one count of criminal mischief, and one count of resisting without violence. The older boy is also facing a parole violation.
Police were called to the Guns 4 Less store in Coral Gables, located between Travis Jewelers and the InstaLoan store for easy cash access, after a silent alarm sounded at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday to find the two children packing up loads of weapons and ammunition, but they had to drop most of the weapons when fleeing from police.
“Due to the weight of the multiple guns and ammunition stolen, the juveniles dropped the guns and fled on foot in separate directions,” police spokesperson Sgt. Julie Green said. The 14-year-old, however, had an AR-15 assault pistol in his possession when arrested.
