Vernon Jones, a Democratic member of the Georgia State House, gave a fanciful version of historical Black support for Democrats, saying that Democrats have restricted Black people to a “mental plantation.”
“We’ve been forced to be there for decades and generations,” Jones said. He said he’s part of a “large and growing segment” of Black voters who are supporting Trump.
Noting that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer wore kente scarves in honor of BLM during protests, Jones said, “As if pandering were enough to keep us satisfied.”
Trump currently has about 6% of the African-American vote, according to recent polls.
