In a break with protocol, Lt. General Keith Kellogg, the national security advisor to the vice president, gave an address during the republican program, claiming that he was “in the room where it happened” and that
“With historic investment and vision, our military is now better equipped, better resourced and better manned than any military in the world,” Kellogg stated.
“President Trump eliminated the Islamic caliphate,” Kellogg stated. [Fact Check: ISIS still exists and by many accounts, is growing stronger.]
Kellogg said that NATO allies increased their military commitments. [Fact Check: NATO members signed an agreement in 2014 that would increase each nations’ military spending to 2% of those countries GDP over the next ten years. That’s when Obama was president.]
Kellogg implored the audience to “ask yourself, has this president kept his promises…. Has he defended your interests in renegotiating trade deals that previously hurt Americans and our national security? Has he fulfilled his commander-in-chief role by decisively going after our nation’s enemies?”
“You and I know, the answer is yes.”
[Fact Check: We don’t know that. Trump’s trade policy led to the federal government spending hundreds of billions of dollars to prop up industries and agriculture. Plus, Trump hasn’t done anything to punish Russia, the nation that meddled in the 2016 election, and actually said he believed Putin over our intel community.]
