Nevada’s first-year MAGAt governor Joe Lombardo will likely be hit with a fine up to $1.7 million by the state ethics commission for wearing his sheriff’s badge and uniform in campaign advertising for his 2022 run for office, the Associated Press reports.

Citing 68 separate violations of the state ethics code, the executive director of the Nevada Commission on Ethics will also recommend to the board establishing an overseer for the governor’s office to ensure compliance with state ethics policies.  Lombardo, who served two terms as Clark County sheriff, a non-partisan position, repeatedly used images of himself in either full uniform or in civilian attire but which his sheriff’s star in ads that were run dozens of time of television, online or in print.

President Joe Biden vetoed the GOP-led effort to revoke student loan debt relief up to $20,000 to millions of Americans with federally-backed loans, effectively ending the legislative attempt to overturn the effort because opponents will not get the two-thirds needed in either the Senate or the House to override the veto, Politico reports.

“Some of the same members of Congress who supported a bill that’d block student loan debt relief had millions of dollars in PPP loans forgiven,” Biden posted on Twitter. “But when it comes to hard-working Americans getting student debt relief, that’s where they draw the line?”

Donald Trump is the target of a federal investigation that will likely result in an indictment, Politico reports, with the Justice Department sending his lawyers a formal “target letter” relating to the classified documents investigation, the clearest sign that Special Counsel Jack Smith will be filing charges against the former president in the near future.

Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith’s team have subpoenaed white nationalist alcoholic felon Steve Bannon to testify to the grand jury investigating the failed post-2020 election coup attempt by the Trump Regime and their minions, NBC News’s Laura Jarrett reports.

Fox News lawyers on Tuesday night informed former top white nationalist propagandist Tucker Carlson he violated his contract with the premiere of his shitty new show on Twitter earlier that evening, setting up the possibility of Fox bringing legal action against him, Axios reports.

“Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds. Now they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events,” Tucker’s lawyer Bryan Freedman told Axios in a statement.

The Washington Post separately reports that the indictment will unfortunately be handed down in Florida, as that’s where the bulk of the offenses occurred. Which sucks because not only will it be a friendlier jury pool than in DC but it’s more likely Trump could end up in front that piece of shit federal circuit Judge Aileen Cannon, famous for acting as his defense lawyer during his lawsuit against the government for sending the FBI to raid Mar-a-Lago back last August.

The Administrative Office of The US Courts on Wednesday published the annual financial disclosures for seven of the nine justices of the Supreme Court, the Washington Post reports while noting that the two missing are far right assholes Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas.

We should note that besides MSM reporting we don’t actually have any confirmation that this grand jury is specific to the Mar-a-Lago docs case. Budowich, a former Trump White House minion who has been interrogated by House January 6th Select Committee investigators has issued statements before about the classified documents investigation, but outside of that we would have to question if that’s DEFINITELY the case this new grand jury is examining. Notably Budowich himself doesn’t give any such details in his tweet, just describing it in general “witch hunt” bullshit terms, without adding any company lines about Trump having declassified the documents automatically just by thinking about it or whatever. Our understanding is that Mar-a-Lago employees and other witnesses traveled to DC to testify to the first grand jury, which raises the question of why come to them, especially while the Mar-a-Lago classified documents theft case is reportedly wrapping up.

With the all-important caveat that we’re not lawyers and we don’t know shit, we’re going to raise the possibility that, since the January 6th coup attempt investigation has one grand jury in DC and the Mar-a-Lago docs case has another, this third grand jury in Florida means Jack Smith’s team are pursuing a whole other investigation into the Orange God Emperor and his minions.

Awfully interesting how just a day after Bill Barr said Trump’s looming indictment for stealing classified documents is “not a case of the Department of Justice conducting a witch hunt” and “they approached this very delicately and with deference to the president, and this would have gone nowhere had the president just returned the documents. But he jerked them around for a year and a half,” and two days after Trump called Barr a “weak and slovenly man” for not doing anything to overturn the 2020 election over some other interview, and we could go on over their now years-long back and forth shit talk, that now spandex-wearing grapple freak Jim Jordan is happy to take Barr’s word for it simply because this time he’s saying exactly what Republicans want to hear.

Anyway, Barr told the Federalist that an investigation into the Bidens “was not closed down” and “On the contrary, it was sent to Delaware for further investigation.” And those are the only two quotes they use in the “exclusive” article meant to carry a whole “debunking” of Jamie Raskin’s briefing to the media after he and violent pro-choice activist James Comer viewed the now-legendary FD-1023 document. The problem for Jordan and pals is that on Monday the Washington Post reported that sources within the Justice Department now, in 2023, told them the investigation was in fact closed, writing “the allegation contained in the document was reviewed by the FBI at the time and was found to not be supported by facts, and the investigation was subsequently dropped with the Trump Justice Department’s sign-off, according to the people familiar with the investigation.”

It’s unlikely Barr is deliberately lying so much as he got his wires crossed with the ongoing legitimate investigations into Hunter Biden for his taxes and the gun permit, or that he wasn’t confused and the Federalist purposely twisted his words to make it sound like what fanboys want to hear. They certainly don’t want him to talk about the other shit he’s been saying publicly lately.

Trump spokesman-turned chief of the “MAGA Inc” PAC Taylor Budowich is the witness testifying on Wednesday before the Florida federal grand jury impaneled for unknown reasons by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, the Guardian’s Hugo Lowell reports.

Dem Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes on Tuesday informed the Board of Supervisors in rural Mohave County that he knows what they’re up to and they’re going to find out if they fuck around with ditching tabulators to start counting ballots by hand next election, VoteBeat.us reports.

“Hand counting ballots is incredibly prone to human error, which results in a time-intensive process to arrive at correct, final results. However, even assuming correct results, state law does not allow county boards to unilaterally substitute a hand count for certified and tested electronic tabulation equipment,” wrote Fontes to Mohave the board a day after they voted nearly unanimously to request a proposal plan to hand-count ballots going forward. In a statement to VoteBeat Fontes added that “any plan to initiate a full hand count of ballots for a future election would put [county election] officials in serious legal jeopardy, including possible criminal liability, for violations of state law.”

Even more stupid for Fontes is how he’s still stuck dealing with this shit after a judge last November ordered similarly MAGA, rural Cochise County to halt their planned hand count after the 2022 midterms. A letter sent last month to all 15 counties by credibly accused domestic abuser and far right state Senate Majority Leader Sonny Borrelli last month falsely claiming a non-binding resolution declaring ballot tabulation machines illegal was actually binding certainly did not help the situation.

Responding to Nazi memorabilia collector and Clarence Thomas’s sugar daddy MAGA billionaire Harlan Crow’s refusal to answer questions from Democrats, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden on Tuesday threatened to subpoena Crow, raising the question of why threaten it rather than just going ahead and fucking doing it already to show that they mean business on this.

“It comes as little surprise that Mr Crow is doubling down on bogus legal theories as he continues to stonewall basic questions about his gifts to Clarence Thomas and his family. If anything, the most recent letter from his attorney raises more questions than it answers. The letter states, ‘charter rates or reimbursements at rates prescribed by law were paid to the Crow family entities’ with zero additional detail that could help clarify these financial arrangements, such as exactly who made those payments for Justice Thomas’s extravagant luxury travel, and how many times and in what amounts those payments were made. Far too often, efforts to investigate real life tax practices of the ultra-wealthy and powerful end with this kind of vague, carefully-worded assurance that everything is on the level. That’s simply not good enough. This is exactly why the Finance Committee is pursuing this matter as part of its broader review of gift and estate tax practices of ultra-high net worth individuals. I’ve already begun productive discussions with the Finance Committee on next steps to compel answers to our questions from Mr Crow, including by subpoena, and those discussions will continue,” wrote Wyden in a statement.
