In a state where Republicans want to bar discussions of any sexual issues or enslavement in a classroom, those same Republicans are considering a bill that would require teachers in all public school classrooms have to explain the concept of adultery and manservants to students from kindergarten on.
NBC’s Mike Hixenbaugh tweeted the apparent contradiction in the goals of Republicans to shield children from all things sexual by pointing out SB 1515 requires every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments as listed in the King James version of the Bible, which includes language describing embarrassing sexual act, descriptions of which potentially violate other Texas laws.
For you godless libs, the Seventh Commandment reads, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” an act that will have to be explained to most six-year-olds in violation of Republicans’ policy of banning sex talk from elementary schools. And the Tenth Commandment–“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.”–will likely prompt discussion on more things than the definition of “covet.”
