Arizona-based Republican strategist Chuck Coughlin tells Politico that convicted felon former President Trump revealed how badly he just blew up his own campaign’s strategy during the train wreck NABJ interview in Chicago on Wednesday, saying “They don’t have a narrative that they’re comfortable with about how to take down Harris. He’s grasping around. I think he’s desperately grasping around with his instincts. I don’t think his team has any way to put their handle on this.”
Politico themselves characterize the shitshow with “Scrambling to put an end to Kamala Harris’ ascent, Donald Trump’s campaign and outside allies came up with a plan: Hit her on immigration, her record as a ‘liberal prosecutor’ and as a ‘radical.’ It didn’t last long,” and that the stupid, racist shit he said “overshadowed the attacks his political operation has made against Harris in recent days, while Trump still seems to be searching for an effective message to damage her.”
Loyal ballsucker former RNC spokesman Doug Heye spun it with the old “The media is going to go into overdrive over the next 24 hours of all the ‘bombshells’ from this interview, as it has every other time Trump the matador waves the red cape and the media follows. The conversation today and tomorrow will not be on cat ladies or coconuts, etc but back on Trump. Where he wants it.”
That trope was tiresome in 2016, even if there was some validity to it. However Trump was sui generis then, by 2020 when Joe Biden was running his “basement campaign” the novelty had worn off and more media attention was a bad thing. If it was a good thing then Donald and his fanboys would have been happy that Biden had a lower profile. That Harris’s campaign just put out a brief statement ripping Trump and then outsourced all the “damage control” to Republicans complaining that the fat bastard wasn’t focusing on policy, should tell you this isn’t good attention.
