A second state judge issued a second stay on Louisiana’s abortion ban, just four days after another judge lifted a hold put on the law by a third Louisiana judge earlier last week, starting another tumultuous day for women’s reproductive care in the state, the New York Times reports.
Last Friday, a judge ruled that a different judge’s decision was void because he did not have authority to issue a stay against the state law because the case was filed in the wrong court. Today’s ruling comes from a separate case, with a judge in the proper district–Baton Rouge–determining the stay was necessary.
The plaintiff in the current lawsuit, Hope Medical Group for Women, is one of the few operating abortion clinics in the state. It announced that it would reopen to provide services as soon as possible.
