Judicial committee gets complaint about Thomas’s disclosures

An obscure committee of federal judges responsible for reviewing the administration of the judicial system received a complaint about consistently inaccurate financial disclosures filed by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for review, the Washington Post reports.

Democrats Sheldon Whitehouse, the Senator from Rhode Island, and Congressman Hank Johnson of Georgia filed a complaint with the Judicial Conference of the United States, a Congressionally-created organization, about Thomas’s financial disclosures that have a pattern of omitting significant gifts, real estate transactions and spousal income.  The Conference confirmed that it received the referral and sent it to its internal Committee on Financial Disclosure.

Though rare, the Judicial Conference can initiate an investigation into the conduct of a member of the judiciary.  Although it has no authority to unseat a judge, it can refer an individual to the House for impeachment.

Dominion and Fox News settle lawsuit: $787.5 million

On the first day of what would’ve been a hell of a trial, Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News on Tuesday abruptly agreed to settle Dominion’s defamation claims against the propaganda network over its lies about the voting machine manufacturer in the aftermath of the 2020 election.

Shortly after Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis announced the settlement, Fox News issued a statement, saying “We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects FOX’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”

The settlement is for $787.5 million, less than the $1.6 billion sought.  “Fox has admitted to telling lies about Dominion that caused tremendous damage….” Dominion’s CEO said after a company lawyer announced the settlement.

Judge appoints special master in Dominion v Fox News case

Presiding over the opening day of the Dominion v Fox News defamation case, Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis on Tuesday made good on his intent to appoint a special master to review all of Team Fox’s evidentiary fuckery during the discovery phase of the case, ABC News reports.

Davis directed the unnamed special master to make a report and “include a determination” of whether Fox News and Fox Corp “complied with their discovery obligations” prior to the trial.

Fulton DA seeks to disqualify fake Trump 2020 electors’ lawyer

Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis on Tuesday filed a motion asking a judge to disqualify MAGA lawyer Kimberly Debrow from representing the assholes who signed fake electoral college votes for fat former President Trump in December 2020, arguing that Debrow is stuck in a conflict of interest given that the electors have been turning against each other – and that Debrow didn’t tell the fake electors about the immunity deals Willis’s office was offering to some of them.

Judge Robert McBurney last year ordered now former Georgia Republican Party chairman David Shafer to drop Debrow and to get his own lawyer separate from the rest of the fake electors, so disqualifying her from the case altogether might not be a stretch. It’s not clear what, if anything, Willis’s filing could mean as far as how close she is to finally indicting these pieces of shit and their Orange Allah, but at the very least it should still make it clear she hasn’t dropped the case.

Toddler apprehended during recon mission at White House

A toddler’s reconnaissance mission to probe vulnerabilities in White House security procedures ended with his quick apprehension by Secret Service personnel Tuesday, the AP reports.

The tiny sociopath squeezed himself in between the bars of the fence on the north side of the Presidential complex and was preparing to continue further when agents detained him. The toddler was then quickly returned to his parents at a nearby gate. “The White House security systems instantly triggered Secret Service officers and the toddler and parents were quickly reunited,” said Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi in a statement about the “curious young visitor.”

Simpsons clips included in Fox’s defense exhibits

Among the defense exhibits for Fox News in its trial against Dominion Voting Systems are four clips from The Simpsons, the long-running animated TV series formerly produced by 20th Century Fox before the studio was bought up by Disney, NBC News reports while adding they have no idea why.

The four clips are the “Treehouse of Horror XIX” in which Homer attempts to vote for Barack Obama, another one of him voting in 2012, a 2016 YouTube short featuring Putin disguising himself as an American and trying to convince Homer to vote for Trump, and “Treehouse of Horror XXXI” where Homer deciding between Trump and Biden. Fox did not explain why they included the clips.

Putin inspects occupied Ukrainian territory during secret visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected regions of Kherson and Luhansk in Ukraine occupied by Russian troops and mercenaries during an unannounced visit Monday, the Washington Post reports.  Putin’s trip was not previously announced out of security concerns, a sign that the Kremlin’s stated confidence about the security and support it claims in the region is tenuous.

Scheduled for the day after Orthodox Easter is celebrated, Putin’s trip was the second to Ukraine since the February 2022 invasion.  While Putin has asserted Russian rule over the region through a little-respected annexation announcement, Russia does not have control of the areas, forcing the Kremlin to designate new regional capitals from which Russian quislings will govern occupied territories.

Elon Musk cancels Ali Alexander

Free speech crusader Elon Musk has permanently banned MAGA groomer Ali Alexander from Twitter. It’s not clear if Alexander’s apology for engaging in what were almost certainly sexual relationships with underage boys was the direct cause, or if it was some defensive shitposting by Ali in the aftermath on Monday into Tuesday, but either way the asshole is in the birdcage for life.

MAGA Land overdoing the apocalyptic action movie speech bit

“The Declaration of Independence says that we not only have the right but we also have the duty to alter or abolish any government that does not secure our unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right of revolution (or right of rebellion) is the right or duty of a people to ‘alter or abolish’ a government that acts against their common interests or threatens the safety of the people without cause,” says the current top comment on the Fox News article “Biden admin hit with lawsuits for hiding communications involving Cabinet secretary’s daughter.”

Probably safe to assume the commenter didn’t even actually read the article, which is just another one of those “watchdog group” circlejerks where they file a lawsuit that goes nowhere and then gets forgotten about, this one accusing Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s climate activist daughter lobbying her mom about certain decisions on oil and gas leases, which to be honest falls just a little short of what might be weighty enough to merit drawing upon Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich movie scripts to weigh in. Or maybe he did and just decided to dial up the drama anyway.

Russian court rejects WSJ reporter’s appeal of detention

A Russian court closed to media and US diplomats on Tuesday ruled against Wall Street Journal Moscow correspondent Evan Gershkovich’s appeal against his detention, ordering him detained until the end of next month, which will almost certainly be extended, the New York Times reports.

Gershkovich was arrested late last month on bullshit espionage charges just a day after he filed a story accurately describing the abysmal state of the Russian economy and its grim prospects.

Team Orange getting ready for 14th Amendment ballot challenges

Fat former President Trump’s minions are gearing up for challenges to his access to both the primary and general election ballots under the 14th Amendment, Section 3’s ban on insurrectionists that was successfully deployed on Cowboys for Trump asshole and now-former Otero County, New Mexico Commissioner Couy Griffin over his January 6th conviction last year, the Washington Post reports.

“This is a prime example of election interference. They are writing Donald Trump’s message themselves,” said one Trump minion. “The question is really what judge is going to grant any one of these states the ability to interfere with the American electoral process… We are very aware of the task before us.” The challenges can’t be filed until Trump officially applies for ballot access in the primaries, which gives them not a lot of turnaround time before the elections start early next year.

Trump’s team expect challenges in Blue and darker-Purple States like California, New York, Connecticut, Oregon, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington and Michigan, but haven’t ruled out having to defend him in North Carolina or Georgia. The Peach State could be particularly worrisome for Donald, as his loyal scumbag Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was put on the stand for hours last year in what was ultimately a successful defense of a 14th Amendment challenge.

US personnel come under fire in Sudan

An American diplomatic convoy came under fire from the Sudanese “Rapid Support Forces” in Khartoum on Tuesday, Axios reports citing Secretary of State Tony Blinken. No Americans were injured and the ambassador was not present, but the incident underscores the growing chaos in the country as the civil conflict intensifies and Republicans itch for another Benghazi.

Upstate New York man charged with murder after shooting white girl who accidentally drove onto driveway

A 65-year-old Washington County, New York white man has been charged with murder after shooting into a car that had accidentally driven into his driveway while looking for a friend’s house, killing 20-year-old white girl Kaylin Gillis Saturday night, the New York Times reports.

The car, carrying four people, was trying to back down the driveway after the driver realized the mistake.  “She was an innocent young girl who was out with friends looking for another friend’s house,” the sheriff said, adding, “Unfortunately, they drove up this driveway.”  Hey, Kansas City!  This is how you do it!

US to sell 400 Harpoon anti-ship missiles to Taiwan

Reinforcing a threatened ally, the Biden Administration announced it will sell 400 land-based Harpoon anti-ship missiles to Taiwan to help defend the island from a potential Chinese invasion, Bloomberg reports.  The Pentagon had announced the contract, valued at around $1.2 billion, on April 7th but the statement did not identify the buyer.

The Chinese Navy has around 340 surface ships and submarines, including two operational aircraft carriers and more than 120 major surface combat ships.  So should China’s fleet be committed to an invasion, Taiwan will have just 60 Harpoon missiles.

Former Fox producer says she found more evidence for Dominion

Abby Grossberg, the former senior producer for Tucker Carlson and Maria Bartiromo at Fox, filed a statement with the court that she has an old company-issued smartphone that she used at the time around the 2020 election that likely has evidence relevant to the Dominion Voting Systems defamation case, NBC News reports.

Grossberg said she told Fox lawyers that she had the phone, and they told her to hold onto it, but they never collected it from her when other evidence was taken.  In another example of incompetent lawyerin’ though this time not directly involving Donald Trump, Fox lawyers have been chided by the judge in the case, who stated he’s likely to appoint a special master to investigate whether or not they intentionally withheld evidence.
