In a failure by their fact-checking team, the Detroit Free Press on Monday reported that former auto industry executive/business consultant Perry Johnson had launched his second bid for the governor’s mansion in the Great Lakes State. Everything else about the story was correct, but they fucked up on the ordinal aspect of it as Johnson’s alleged first campaign in 2022 technically never actually happened because he – along with four other hopefuls in the ten-candidate GOP primary field that year – was disqualified when the canvassing firms they used for gathering their ballot access petition signatures turned out to have submitted thousands of falsified names.

So really it’s Johnson’s first governor campaign, and one in which the pitch is “We can deliver better services at lower cost by running state government with the same efficiency, accountability, and a results-driven mindset we used to help save the auto industry and businesses across the country.”

Sounds great, especially when you ignore the fact that Johnson pissed away $27 million of his own money on that nascent pre-campaign, all of it gone because he couldn’t be bothered to apply anything resembling efficiency, accountability, or a results-driven mindset to his political ambitions.

In a guest op-ed printed by the New York Times on Tuesday morning, “moderate” Republican New York Congressman Mike Lawler writes “The deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis this month were tragic and preventable. No matter where you stand on immigration enforcement, the shootings show that what the country has been doing is not working,” in the opening paragraph.

“The loudest voices on each extreme have retreated to their usual corners. They have an interest in keeping our immigration problems unsolved and politically divisive. Everyone else must see that Congress and the president need to embrace a new comprehensive national immigration policy that acknowledges Americans’ many legitimate concerns about how the government has conducted immigration policy,” Lawler continued in the second paragraph and again it’s worth noting that his Orange Allah purposely bricked the previous administration’s attempts at bolstering border security.

Lawler’s third paragraph: “That starts with reviewing how we got here. During President Joe Biden’s term, lenient border policies and foolish state and local laws offering shelter and benefits to illegal immigrants resulted in millions of migrants entering the United States, overwhelming our cities, our legal and public education systems, and our social safety net,” and THERE IT IS. The freaking worm who as a teenager got kicked out of the courtroom during Michael Jackson’s 2005 child molestation trial for audibly cursing at the mother of Jacko’s cancer-stricken accuser is pointing the finger at Amtrak Joe for Trump’s DHS agents summarily executing two American citizens in broad daylight.

Milan, Italy Mayor Giuseppe Sala on Tuesday was not pleased to learn that convicted felon President Trump’s regime is sending ICE agents to support “diplomatic security operations” on the ground in his city during next month’s Winter Olympics, telling the Associated Press that “This is a militia that kills, a militia that enters into the homes of people, signing their own permission slips.”

“It is clear they are not welcome in Milan, without a doubt,” Sala continued. Unmentioned but possibly implied is that his city was where in 1945 deposed dictator Benito Mussolini’s corpse was strung upside down from a gas station canopy and his face punched repeatedly until it looked like a day one IHOP kitchen line cook trainee’s first attempt at a short stack of strawberry pancakes.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said he had not had any confirmation of the deployment, but also didn’t “see what the problem would be,” thus confirming Piantedosi is a fucking idiot. If this were Budapest or Doha or Buenos Aires then no, there probably wouldn’t be much of a problem.

An “administration adviser” tells Axios that the Trump Regime’s drawdown in Minneapolis cannot be seen by the media and voters as a total capitulation and needs to be stage-managed to still look like mission accomplished. “We can’t lose Minneapolis because if we do, we lose Chicago and Los Angeles,” the anonymous asshole said, adding “We’re not going to let the people who lost the presidential election over immigration dictate to us on immigration,” referring to Democrats.

Another source said the mistake was detailing Bovino and the CBP to what’s supposed to be ICE’s remit, since Border Patrol agents “train differently” than ICE stormtroopers. “They’re being deployed to the interior when they’re used to dealing with single adult, military age males that could be cartel members or Chinese terrorists,” the source told Axios, ignoring that Renee Good was killed by an ICE agent under essentially the same circumstances as Alex Pretti was killed by a Border Patrol officer. That of course on top of the Fox News Saturday morning cartoon bullshit about “cartel members or Chinese terrorists or Chinese terrorists.”

It was only escalation, and no one was going to back down,” another source said of Bovino, adding “[FBI bribery sting operation target Tom] Homan going is a good thing. Former Army Lt Colonel Alex Vindman, the Ukrainian-born whistleblower who exposed convicted felon President Trump’s deranged attempt to coerce President Volodymyr Zelensky into interfering in the 2020 election, announced on Tuesday he’s running for the Dem nomination to challenge creepy Florida Senator Ashley Moody in the November midterms. Vindman’s twin brother Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, also canned by Trump after the impeachment trial, already serves as a Congressman in Virginia’s 7th. Moody in all likelihood probably still wins this but Vindman’s no dumbass and will give her considerably harder of a fight than some peanut like Charlie Crist.

A new national survey by Reuters/Ipsos finds convicted felon President Trump’s overall job approval rating sinking to 38 percent, from 41 percent in their previous test and matching his second term low. A majority – 58 percent of respondents – also say “ICE has gone too far” with their fascist shit.

Separately, an Echelon Insights national survey finds Dems leading Republicans 49 to 44 percent on the generic congressional ballot, which in itself is not that large of a gap nor is it that far off from where other pollster are at on that number these days. Worth noting about it however is the shift in independent voters’ responses over just the last month: In December Dems led Republicans 47 to 34 percent among indies, in January that lead doubled and Dems are up 49 to 23 percent.

Also notable: In February 2025 Trump’s job rating among indies was 51 to 45 approve/disapprove, he’s now at 26 percent approve to 69 percent dis, a 51 percent net swing in 11 months. Impressive.

A New York City Police Department sergeant has been placed on modified duty after the fatal shooting of an unarmed raccoon during a response to a report of suspicious activity on the boardwalk in the Rockaway Park section of Queens on Thursday, the New York Daily News reports.

Sgt Nicholas Henry fired at least three rounds at the animal as it was moving near the fence line adjacent to the beach at Beach 121st St in response to what he and other officers’ who responded had claimed was an aggressive charge at a group of people nearby. The bodycam footage released to the Daily News does not include the officers’ interactions with that group of people on the morning in question and the department did not respond to further questions about that detail.

A statement from the NYPD did however say the raccoon was then taken to the New York City Animal Care Centers shelter where it was pronounced dead on arrival. It’s not clear if veterinarians performed an autopsy and tested for rabies or if the remains were unceremoniously incinerated in the shelter’s crematorium without any such further investigation into the animal’s state of mind.

Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Chris Madel, who the Star-Tribune describes as a political outsider trial attorney who emerged from relative obscurity since his December 1st launch to polling among the top three in a crowded primary field, announced the end of his bid on Monday, saying he can no longer support the Trump regime’s crackdown that has “expanded far beyond its stated focus on true public safety threats” when “United States citizens, particularly those of color, live in fear. United States citizens are carrying papers to prove their citizenship. That’s wrong.”

Just to illustrate how big of a 180 this is: Madel has been providing pro-bono legal counsel to ICE agent Jonathan Ross after he murdered Renee Good less than three weeks ago. “I do this because I believe the Constitutional right to counsel is sacrosanct,” Madel said in his announcement.

“National Republicans have made it nearly impossible for a Republican to win a statewide election in Minnesota,” Madel continued in his towel-throwing-in video. You can go back and forth all day about his moral sincerity or the actual political impact of his surrender, but a less fraught question is whether anything like this has ever happened before – a Republican so clearly saying “Enough of this shit. I’m out” while unambiguously blaming the Trump Regime for inflicting suffering on them.
