Comedian, actor and television pioneer Carl Reiner has died at the age of 98, according to Variety.
Winner of nine Emmy Awards and one Grammy, Reiner had a career that spanned seven decades. He is best known as the creator of the 1960s Dick Van Dyke Show where he also played Alan Brady, and as a writer and actor of Your Show of Shows. Reiner’s stand-up comedy routines with the legendary Mel Brooks, such as the 2,000 Year Old Man, are considered masterpieces.
Reiner went on to write, direct, produce or star in more than 150 movies and television shows, including the Ocean’s trilogy.
A veteran of the Army who served in World War II, Reiner was the father of three children: director Rob, author Annie and artist Lucas. His wife of 64 years, Estelle Lebost, passed away in 2008. Reiner was also known as one of the oldest active celebrities on Twitter, frequently criticizing Donald Trump.
