With two major storms headed for the Gulf Coast, Louisiana and other states are preparing for a rare double-landfall in the next week, including government-mandated evacuations of coastal areas, the Washington Post reports.
Marco was upgraded to a hurricane early Sunday, with Tropical Storm Laura hitting hurricane potential before it hits landfall. Central Louisiana is currently under a hurricane warning with Marco expected to hit Monday.
While Tropical Storm Laura’s path is still uncertain, the Florida Keys have been placed under a tropical storm watch, but the course of the storm has shifted westward, putting Louisiana and West Texas in danger.
The storms will hit land during the republican National Convention, which will undoubtedly recall the Trump Administration’s poor response to Hurricane Maria, which cost more than 3,000 American lives.
