Trump’s “correction” here is actually partially supported by reporting by Axios’s Jonathan Swan, who in a January episode of the “How it happened” podcast detailed how Trump lost confidence in Barr in June 2020 during the riots following the murder of George Floyd, but held off on firing him because of the upcoming election. Though Trump is now dialing the timeline back another 7 months back to the November 2019 Horowitz report, it is indeed true that Barr had outlived his usefulness to the Orange God Emperor long before the 2020 election.
