Pepsi’s announcement that they’re cutting the sugar content of a 12oz can from 36 grams down to 15 grams in the UK was not well met by a diabetic advocacy group in the country, who warned that the change would mean Type 1 patients would have to drink more to “hypo,” Sky News reports.
“If you use Pepsi as a hypo treatment then it is important to be aware of this change, as you are likely to need a larger volume of the new version to effectively treat your hypo,” the Diabetes UK organization said in a statement. They did not however say anything along the lines of “Hey, this is great since it might mean fewer people will develop diabetes. More soda companies should do this.”
