For all the talk these days about how lame CNN’s TV news coverage is, the issues with it do not extend to their website’s written articles, which have been pretty fucking solid for the last few months. In fact it seems like CNN, NBC, ABC, and CBS have all stepped it up and are almost within spitting distance of the Times and the Post in terms of good and gritty political coverage.

However, CNN’s Tuesday report on communication and coordination between the House GOP and their Orange God Emperor over ongoing investigations and other time-wasting bullshit is actually notable for what it doesn’t have. Sources seemed happy to talk about the offense – as in Hunter Biden all day – but none, not even on background, wanted to say anything about defense, especially the thus far failed attempt to haul Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg in front of a committee.

“Multiple sources tell CNN that Trump and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan speak regularly but declined to divulge whether those conversations included Jordan’s investigative efforts,” CNN writes, and it’s hard not to imagine that the MAGA House members and staff shit themselves after Bragg’s general counsel Leslie Duebeck pointed out that Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina had reportedly sent a letter to Jordan last month asking him to open an investigation into Bragg’s office.

What we’re confused about here is the precise reason why that particular topic was off-limits. If they’re proud to coordinate with Trump on his other “priorities” then why wouldn’t anyone among the House GOP want to talk about the one thing most important to him these days? Is there something we might be missing here about the legality of such collusion? Of course it’s sketchy and unethical as fuck, but that’s never stopped Trump and Republicans before. Is there more to it?
