Grant Imahara, the cohost of the Discovery Channel’s popular science program “Mythbusters,” has died at the age of 49, according to a statement from the network. He may have died of a brain aneurysm, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Imahara graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in electrical engineering. He went to work with LucasFilm’s THX division before switching to the company’s Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) operation.
Along with Tory Belleci and Kari Byron, Imahara was part of the “Build Team” for Mythbusters hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, constructing the on-air experiments to prove or debunk the urban legends discussed.
Friends and associates, like Adam Savage, took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness.
I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.
