- The US policy to defeat the coronavirus in the US should actually concentrate on vaccinating Americans AND people worldwide. To do that, the US should suspend patent protections for nine months for vaccines developed in the US. Jonas Salk never patented the polio vaccine so it could be used and distributed around the world. We should follow his model.
- Chauvin deserves jail for murdering George Floyd. The officers who let him kneel on a man’s neck for nine minutes also deserve to face justice and should never wear a badge again.
- I wish people who stand behind the “Blue Lives Matter” movement–and yes, police officers should be able to go home safely after their shifts–need to remember that more cops die by suicide than on the job every year by a factor of ten. Fund their health care–and mental health care.
- The stupidity of Ron Johnson–saying that no one should be concerned if their neighbors don’t get vaccinated–literally undermines his claimed “christian” attitude of “love thy neighbor…”
- For peace of mind, I need assurances that Ron Johnson isn’t one of the Johnson & Johnsons who developed their vaccine. Or the baby shampoo, for that matter.
- The rise of the “replacement theory” on Tucker Carlson demonstrates that Fox New targets a “old white racist” demographic. Hence the saturation of MyPillow ads.
- Ted Cruz claiming the GOP never tried to pack the Supreme Court is the Republicans’ hilariously bad rewriting of American history for the week.
- Caitlyn Jenner. Ronna Romney McDaniel. Laura Trump. Sarah Huckleberry Slanders. Mark McCloskey. None of them have ever held public office. All are running as Republicans for governor or senator. This is the GOP’s cream of the crop heading into the midterms.
- Two hundred million vaccines administered in 92 days, one calendar quarter. Imagine what Biden could do if he wasn’t so “sleepy.”
- One year ago, someone standing at the podium in the White House said it was legit therapy to inject disinfectants. Coincidentally (or causally) in the weeks after his statement, the number of calls to poison hotlines jumped 60% nationwide. He should be charged with abuse of office, just for that.
- Why didn’t Trump insist his doctors inject him with bleach and give him a UV enema when he came down with coronavirus? He chickened out and insisted on scientific-based medical treatments.
- I miss record stores. Not “music stores” that sell CDs. Not the modern hipster-ized version of “stores that sell vinyl.” Actual record stores: the neighborhood stores that sold LPs, had band posters up on the walls, and smelled not-so-vaguely of pot. And they always had an unmarked door to a back room to sell cool stuff to people “in the know.”
- Pies: Key lime, cherry, then pumpkin. Pie a la mode is fine, but whipped cream is better.
- My favorite tweet of the week featured Ben Shapiro standing outside a Home Depot with a small plank of wood–poplar, according to him. Why he felt the need to tweet that he bought a two-foot board that wouldn’t even make a decent shelf befuddles me.
