As teams from numerous government agencies opened up a channel for ships involved in the clean-up, the ship’s management company and the company that owns the container ship that rammed the bridge support causing the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore filed a motion to cap their potential financial losses from lawsuits stemming from the disaster, the Associated Press reports.

Grace Ocean Private Ltd. Co., the owner of the ship, and Synergy Marine Group, which managed it, filed a “limitation of liability” petition seeking to cap combined damages at $43.6 million.  The filing is in compliance with a pre-Civil War maritime law that allows shipping companies to file for a cap in damages when there’s a death caused while engaged in maritime trade.  A court will ultimately decide who is liable for damages.

As the clean-up of the site goes on, the container ship, the MV Dali, remains at the site as crews start to use torches to cut through the remains of the bridge.  The Dali’s crew has been aboard the ship since the accident, unable to leave the ship due to another longstanding maritime law.  Technicians have also cleared a separate channel to be used only by ships involved in the clean-up effort; commercial traffic remains blocked.

The Tennessee state house and senate passed a bill with an amendment that would ban any research or implementation of geoengineering projects that may alleviate some of the long term effects out of concerns about conspiracy theories regarding so-called “chem trails” in the skies, NBC News reports.

A three-judge panel denied all eight motions to dismiss made by Hunter Biden’s attorneys relating to the tax fraud charges he faces in California.  A judge who initially heard the case last week questioned the validity of one of the arguments, which he said lacked any evidence.  Biden also faces federal gun charges in Delaware.

Donald Trump posted a $175 million bond with the New York courts, allowing him to appeal the $450+ million civil judgment for financial fraud, Erica Orden of Politico reports.  The bond was posted by Knight Specialty Insurance Company.

Fresh off her dismissal from NBC News after a rebellion from the network’s journalist because she lacks credibility, the Democrats’ favorite former RNC chair Ronna Romney McDaniel will join Kremlin-backed media outlet RT on a short-term contract to provide US election analysis.  

Management at RT expressed excitement at having the former RNC chair appearing on the network, which signed McRomney to a one-day try-out contract on Monday.  “Ronna gives our network the type of honesty and credibility reflective of our brand here in the United States,” Alexey Nikolov, the Managing Director of RT stated in a released statement.  “Having her on our staff, even momentarily, provides us with inroads to appear legitimate to her previous audience.  Having a familiar face advancing our talking points cuts through six steps on establishing credibility for the highly-impressionable audience we wish to indoctrinate.”

A Maricopa County, Arizona judge ruled lection officials may seek sanctions against losing Republican Attorney General candidate Abe Hamadeh for his attempts to decertify the 2022 election Hamadeh lost to Democrat Kris Mayes by 280 votes, the Arizona Republican reports.

The ruling by Judge Susanna Pineda also consolidated–and dismissed–suits brought by Hamadeh and two private citizens seeking to require yet another hand recount of ballots and reverse the results of the election that happened 18 months ago.  Private citizen David Mast and Cochise County Supervisor Tom Crosby (acting as a private citizen) brought suit claiming their votes were negated because mail-in ballots were counted even though each ballot’s signature was not matched to the voter’s registration cards.

Of course, Trump’s wealth with this stock is vapor:  the true value of his shares is what someone is willing to pay Trump for them, and when he has his fire sale to raise cash, the value will plummet.

Multiplying the headache for Florida Republicans on the November ballot:  the state Supreme Court ruled that a measure enshrining abortion rights may appear on the November ballot, while it also said that the state’s new 6-week abortion rule can go into effect, NBC News reports.  With abortion and marijuana on the ballot, Florida has two key issues in referenda that have traditionally brought younger, more liberal voters out for elections.  It’s a shame Democrats don’t yet have a strong candidate to challenge Rick Scott for the Senate; these are issues that could flip a seat.

In a slap against Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and a potential boost for Democrats across the state, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that a constitutional amendment referendum that would legalize the recreational use of marijuana can appear on the November ballot, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports.

Besides the potentiality of mellowing out some really fucked-up people in Florida, the cannabis question on the ballot will drive up participation in the election from young and more liberal voters, if demographic data from past statewide cannabis referenda hold true.  This will help Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.

A word of caution, however:  even if the ballot measure gets the majority of votes, the retired devotees of Jimmy Buffett shouldn’t get their hopes up that DeSantis would enact such a law.  While Florida voters voted overwhelmingly to re-enfranchise felons who finished their sentences, DeSantis has yet to fully enact the law.

Fox 5 Atlanta reports that a driver has been arrested after he tried to ram his SUV through the security fence at the FBI headquarters in Atlanta at around noon Monday.  No FBI agents or employees were injured in the incident, during which the driver reported tried to ram the entry gate multiple times before being stopped by a blockade device designed to incapacitate a speeding car.  CNN reports the car is being searched by the bomb squad before it will be moved.

Leave it to former Trump advisor and current federal inmate #04370-510 Peter Navarro continues to lose as he sits in the prison yard at FCI Miami.  According to the Washington Post, Navarro lost his appeal to the DC Court of Appeals for a contempt of court threat–different from the contempt of Congress convictions he’s currently serving time for–made by a federal judge following Navarro’s failure to turn over documents to the National Archives.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly had ordered Navarro to turn over documents to the Archive from his time as a presidential economic advisor during Donald Trump’s single term in office, when the economy underperformed while racking up $8 trillion in debt.  Navarro, however, claimed that the documents are personal documents covered under the Presidential Records Act.

After the judges likely had to stop themselves from laughing at the argument–because the PRA (1) doesn’t give privilege to advisors and (2) doesn’t allow the President to claim as personal records the documents created by his staff to help him do his job–they affirmed that Judge Kollar-Kotelly correctly threatened Navarro with contempt for failing to comply with the court order to turn over the docs.
