New York state and Manhattan prosecutors have given Trump Organization lawyers a Monday deadline to provide justification for the prosecutors to consider to not file charges against the company and possibly its officers, the Washington Post reports.
After two years of investigations by State Attorney General Leticia James and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., the lawyers for Donald Trump face an uphill battle to persuade prosecutors to forgo an indictment.
Law enforcement has been investigating the Trump Organization for questionable financial dealings, specifically regarding the varying valuations of properties for tax purposes versus for use as collateral for loans.
The company is also under investigation for providing untaxed fringe benefits and perks to officers of the company and their family members. Officers, including CFO Allen Weisselberg, was provided with a residential apartment, but did not pay necessary taxes on the market value of the unit.
Other officers, including Trump COO Michael Calamari, was provided apartments for himself and his son, as well as a vehicle which he used for personal purposes.
